Description
This unstitched suit fabric set features authentic traditional Indian hand-block prints using natural dyes, with techniques originating from the Bagru region of Rajasthan. The material is offered as a mix-and-match combination for the top and bottom pieces, using the artisanal Dabu mud-resist printing technique.
Material and Dimensions
- Fabric: The base material for both pieces is high-quality cotton (60/60) cambric, known for its softness, light weight, and breathability, making it comfortable for all seasons, especially warm weather.
- Dimensions: The set provides generous, pre-cut fabric suitable for creating a custom salwar suit or kurta set:
- Top: 2.50 MTR (meters)
- Bottom: 2.50 MTR (meters)
Color and Prints
- Color: The top fabric is primarily black (or deep gray/charcoal) with accents of white/cream and a golden/mustard yellow in the floral motifs. The bottom fabric features prominent red and blue geometric patterns against a cream background. The black dyes are often achieved using natural iron rust mordants.
- Prints: The set combines two distinct, traditional patterns:
- Top Fabric: Displays a dense, repeating floral motif or 'jaal' pattern, often associated with Kalamkari styles.
- Bottom Fabric: Showcases a fine geometric pattern, including chevrons/zigzags, stripes, and dots.
- Technique: Dabu print is a labor-intensive mud-resist hand-block printing process where a paste is applied to the fabric to prevent dye penetration, resulting in unique, slightly irregular patterns that are characteristic of handcrafted goods.
Characteristics & Care
As a handcrafted product using natural dyes and processes, the fabric is eco-friendly and sustainable. Slight irregularities in the print are inherent characteristics of the human-involved process and are not considered manufacturing defects. For the first wash, dry cleaning is highly recommended to preserve the natural color fastness.
